Guest harbour for Marina Nordhavn

Nordhavn's guest harbor lacked capacity during the high season but had neither the time nor the budget for a traditional concrete facility. The solution was a modular MDOCK system that could be assembled in the water without a crane and expanded season by season.

Type of plant

Guest harbour / pontoon bridges

Area

640 m² floating deck

Mounting time

17 days

Load capacity

350 kg/m²

The challenge

  • Need for 180 additional berths before the start of the season.
  • No possibility of closing the harbour during construction.
  • Requirement for facilities that can be removed in case of ice winter and storm surge.

The solution

  • The pontoons were built from HDPE blocks 400 mm high for extra freeboard.
  • The sections were assembled on land and pulled into place in the water.
  • Mooring with pile guides and chains, so the facility follows the water level.

Materials

How the installation was built

  • 1,480 pcs standard blocks 500 × 500 × 400 mm
  • 96 pcs V-blocks for bridge lines
  • Fenders, cleats and rescue ladders
  • LED lighting integrated into walkways

Result

What the customer got out of it

What the customer gained

  • 180 new berths ready for the start of the season.
  • The system can be expanded with new sections without a new project.
  • No maintenance beyond annual cleaning.

We went from decision to a finished bridge in less than a month. We would never have been able to do that with a permanent structure.
